(Denver, CO) -- The Minnesota Wild have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention following a 5-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena.

The game was tied after the first period before Colorado scored three second-period goals to put the game away. Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy each scored in the losing effort. Minnesota will miss the postseason for just the second time in 12 years.

The Wild visit Vegas on Friday for the third game of their five game road trip.
